He's back

I arrived safely in LAX and my car was found dirty on the roof of Terminal 3 short time parking lot. I remembered that I was running a little late when I was taking off to New York that I had to park in short term parking to save time. It was $150. Ouch.

I got home and threw my bags in my apartment. I saw I have a bunch of packages in the lobby but I didn't have the energy to pick them up. I went to go to Kings Head and relax. I got a text from Eliot that they were at Britannia. I walked to Britania and Cnelson and Eliot walked back to Britannia. We drank until close and I got pizza before I went home.

I did a vanity search on myself today and found this and thought it to be funny:

Turbulance

I am in the air right now and my drink is rocking and rolling, tommEE is listening to Britney Spears Toxic because it's the way I feel right now. I have to pee but the seatbelt light is on and the plane is rocking and shaking rough. The captain asked for the flight attendants to return to their seats and that doesn't inspire confidence.

The New York week was awesome. I was just thinking about memorable moments. One was when I was going to Cage Match last night and I was getting out of the cab at 28th and 8th. I opened the door and walked down the street and I think I was by the Magnet and I heard someone shout "tommEE pickles". I think it was one of my friends Shawn but its been so long that I don't know if I am correct. I told the group that I was headed to the Cage Match. On another corner, it was the same thing. It was nice to hear my name called out throughout the city.

The flight attendants are up and about butI just ordered two more vodkas and asked where my Chex Mix was.

I used to feel awkward around McManus sometimes, I felt I wasn't worthy to sit with some of the 'headlining' improv people but last night was a little different. I have improv baggage and travelled the road pretty far.

I didn't mention that when I was at Gil Ozeri's show and Eugene's show I saw Rob Lathan and Charlie Todd. When I talked with Rob, I said let me know when you come to LA. He reminded that I shot video of him at UCB and that he was at the UCB Theater in LA and I was at his show. I forgot all about that

It as nice seeing Charlie and Rob at UCB, it felt good.

I felt bad I didn't get to see Max and Alaina this week. Monday looked like it was going to be good but it ended being such a long travel day, I was exhausted.

I did not like the Helmsley Hotel, it was too antique and the water in the shower was like my old apartment. The bed wasn't that comfortable. They did give me turn down service but it wasn't what I thought turn down service was. They just left chocolate.

Ug this turbulance is freaking me and the flight attendant has not brought my relaxing juice yet. I worry when we land and I have to drive home but I can't leave the car in that expensive parking.

I don't know when I will be back in the Big Apple but I can say the rain didn't make me love the weather.

So next weekend is Defcon Thursday I have the Defcon Cannonball Run. I am sure I have a bunch of packages waiting for me at home. If not they better come soon. I bought another timeclock, a Ranger RCI-2950 to communicate on CB channels, a new radar detector, and a CB antenna.

Apparently we are having a dye party Sunday to get ready for Defcon. I need to fix my roots but find the color before it starts.

I am pretty excited to see all my friends I missed last year because I didn't go to Defcon last year. Last year I was at the Del Close Marathon which was good but I started losing the fever for improv. This year I am going to miss the Del Close Marathon because of Magic Live, a magic convention in Vegas. I sound so nerdy.

One person I missed out in New York was Jawnee Conroy. How we became friends is a wonder but he is great guy and awesome to hang around with. The last time I saw him was at the Del Close Marathon.

Again,, this turbulence is scary. I know it doesn't mean anything but I feel so out of control.

I hope everything turns out ok, its not fun. I have my booze but no Chex Mix.

They made me cry

Wow. Grass is greener on the other side. I haven't seen friends in NYC since October. I had a chance to sit with Nathan inside my hotel last night. It was fun except the hotel I am staying at Helmsley Park Lane just closed it's gift shop for renovations it's gift shop and the cash registers in the restaurant were broken so we couldn't pay with credit.

I went to 59E59 Theater next. My friend Vicki Ferentinos was performing her one woman show. It was great and I am very proud of her. I had to leave early and I felt horrible about it.

I headed down to the Upright Citizens Brigade to see CageMatch. The teams: Death by Roo Roo, champion for 14 weeks. The challenger was Veal, a musical improv group. I know Jason Nettle from the group Veal and it was good to talk to him before the show. A lot of people saw me waiting in line and said Hi, some people even asked why I was waiting in line since I worked for UCBW and have performed in the UCB a bunch. I just felt it was too long since I been connected to UCB.

I will say Veal was very good and never had boring moment. I even found myself liking Abby Holland. They were really well produced and for a Cagematch it was crazy good. I have always been a fan of musical improv and this just made me feel good. It was nice to see the Broadway side of Jason come to live since I know it's in his background.

That being said, then there as Death by Roo Roo. I laughed so hard that I cried. I was embarrassed because I felt like I was the only one. The scenes were so good and the group just had a rhythm.

I saw everyone at McManus afterwards. I got to meet the people from Veal, that was a treat. I got to see Gavin Speiller, Curtis Guinn, Gil Ozeri,, John Gembering, Eric Scott and Ben Rogers, Megan, Ben Whitehouse and a bunch of other people. Curtis gave me a shot that I didn't want he had to drink half of it with me. Bad.

I am flying home today and I hope to be back soon. I will keep you updated.

It's raining again but hey, Jen eats meat

Last night was awesome just like Tuesday night. I had dinner with my friend Jen, a 15 year vegetarian and found out she eats meat now. We went to Bianca and had a bottle of wine with some italian food. Afterwards we ended up at Double Down and had a pint of PBR down there. It was awesome catching up with Jen since we have known each other for ten or so years and haven't seen each other in some time.

I headed to the Upright Citizens Brigade to see Gil Ozeri's show. It was great and I got to see Gil for a bit. I caught up with Chuck D, Charlie Todd and Ron Lathan. I miss UCB and it makes me want to move back home.

I am planning on some beers with Nathan tonight then, I am off to Vicki Ferentinos's one woman show. Then I will go to UCB for Cagematch. Tomorrow I fly back to LA.

Hey, I'm walking here

So I havebeen in New York three days so far. Monday I got in and I was shithouse tired. I was going to try to hook up with Max and Alaina but didn't have it in me. I had to nap. I went to work bright and early Tuesday and got a lot of stuff done.

Later Tuesday I headed to Boulevard Tavern to meet up with Liz. She looked pretty as usual and it was a joy to spend time with her. It was fun. We has beers and then went to the Alligator where they give you free pizza with your beer. We ended our fun just after one o'clock. Thank God, because my head was a little yucky this morning.

Tonight I have plans with Jen Vento, a friend of like 10 years or so. She's a vegetarian and a documentary producer. I used to work with her at Digital Club Network. We plan on eating at Bianca and then she has to run to a screening. If I have time I might show up at UCB or something.

Tomorrow is Cage Match at UCB, my friend Vicki's one woman show and possibly dinner with Max and Alaina.

eharmony save me

I had a date this past weekend. It was ok at first. It ended weird. We went to the Castle first and then to Club KM after. I didn't get some. I haven't gone on many date in the past several months but this was a weird departure.

I did join eharmony months ago because my pal Scott is on it. I wasn't looking for him but someone compatable to me. I went through the 40 minutes of questions that was close to the form of an IQ test. It asked the same questions over and over. After that, it doesn't show you pictures of your matches until you pay the fee. For one month it was $59.99, it's like paying for sex. To add to this pain, you have to go back and forth with premade questions about 3 times and then you get to ask more questions. It is such a slow time I was wondering if I should pre-order Viagra.

Thanks Mother Nature

It was hot today but looking at my trip to New York, looks like I am lucky with weather in LA, New York isn't looking like the weather is good.

It's just 16 days, the Cannonball returns

The Defcon Cannonball Run has been my baby that I let die for several years. I decided since Dom Deluise passed, I would hook up my baby to a pair of jumper cables and revive this event or mode of transportation.

On July 30th around 11am the first contestant will leave the parking lot of Joe's Crab Shack and race 288 miles to the luxurious Riviera Hotel and Casino. The finish line should be somewhere in the back of the Riviera in the chillout rooms 101/102. I am hoping to have a screen with Google Latiude, Foursqare, and QIK. I launched a new twitter for the event at http://twitter.com/dccannonballrun

To kick off and inspire, we will be playing the US debut of Jackie Chan's movie career at the Santa Monica Hacker Drink Up. It will be the Cannonball Run movie. It stars Burt Reynolds, Roger Moore along with peolple who have recently passed like Farrah Fawcett and Dom Deluise.

If you would like more information about Defcon or the Defcon Cannonball Run, check out http://defcon.org and http://moloch.org/cannonball

Its almost time to start a new week

Some fun times were had this weekend. Friday started out with a hard day at work but the night had a plan for some fun. I had some friends that wanted to go to the Magic Castle so I went there first and put them on a list and ate dinner. I saw Stephen Bailey and we talked about his show last week and other stuff. I know Chris Darbo was supposed to show but had to cancel, I don't know if he had to pay $50 for the missed dinner reservation.

I went to Club kM after the Castle because we were to see a screening of Bruno but it didn't happen. Instead we played a King's Cup version of Jenga. It was loads of fun. After three of four rounds it started getting sloppy and we played King's Cup with cards.

I spent the night up at Club kM and headed home but then cnelson, skout23, and sweetums all checked in at Big Dean's. I walked down to the beach to Big Dean's and drank some beers with the gang. After the sun started setting I went home and showered to get ready for the Bar Show.

I got to the Bar Show about 9pm and hung out with Erik Tait and Scott Bowser. Scott and Eliot came a little later. Erik was doing a longer set than he usually does but I think he was doing it for a video. Yuri Pulaski did a good set also for the video. After the show I went home and crashed.

Today I spent the day inside, put some dye in my head and then watched Arrested Development all day. I only left the house to go to Wienerschnitzel and bought too much food but it was all good.

I got picked up around 8pm by cnelson and skout23 to head over to the UCB Theater. We had plans to see Christina Gausus and Scott Adsit in an improv show. It was great. I got to say hi to Christina after the show. I found out she is in town till Tuesday but I told her I would be in New York the following week and we can catch up.

After the show we went to get the car and we waited for the valet. Then Lindsay Lohan came out of Birds and looked at me but then was just looking for the valet. She didn't have cash either so hunted for the ATM, which we knew to be broken. There wasn't any paparazzi following Lohan.

I fear the approaching downfall of Pandora

From Pandora:

Hi, it's Tim -

I hope this email finds you enjoying a great summer Pandora soundtrack.

I'm writing with some important news. Please forgive the lengthy email; it requires some explaining.

First, I want to let you know that we've reached a resolution to the calamitous Internet radio royalty ruling of 2007. After more than two precarious years, we are finally on safe ground with a long-term agreement for survivable royalty rates – thanks to the extraordinary efforts of our listeners who voiced an absolute avalanche of support for us on Capitol Hill. We are deeply thankful.

While we did the best we could to lower the rates, we are going to have to make an adjustment that will affect about 10% of our users who are our heaviest listeners. Specifically, we are going to begin limiting listening to 40 hours per month on the web. Because we have to pay royalty fees per song and per listener, it makes very heavy listeners hard to support on advertising alone. Most listeners will never hit this cap, but it seems that you might.

We hate the idea of capping anyone's usage, so we've been working to devise an alternative for listeners like you. We've come up with two solutions and we hope that one of them will work for you:

  • Your first option is to continue listening just as you have been and, if and when you reach the 40 hour limit in a given month, to pay just $0.99 for unlimited listening for the rest of that month. This isn't a subscription. You can pay by credit card and your card will be charged for just that one month. You'll be able to keep listening as much as you'd like for the remainder of the month. We hope this is relatively painless and affordable - the same price as a single song download.

  • Your second option is to upgrade to our premium version called Pandora One. Pandora One costs $36 per year. In addition to unlimited monthly listening and no advertising, Pandora One offers very high quality 192 Kbps streams, an elegant desktop application that eliminates the need for a browser, personalized skins for the Pandora player, and a number of other features:http://www.pandora.com/pandora_one.

If neither of these options works for you, I hope you'll keep listening to the free version - 40 hours each month will go a long way, especially if you're really careful about hitting pause when you're not listening. We'll be sure to let you know if you start getting close to the limit, and we've created a counter you can access to see how many hours you've already used each month.

We’ll be implementing this change starting this month (July), I'd welcome your feedback and suggestions. The combination of our usage patterns and the "per song per listener" royalty cost creates a financial reality that we can't ignore...but we very much want you to continue listening for years to come.

Please don't hesitate to email me back with your thoughts.

Sincerely,

Double Feature Weekend

Thursday night is a bit of a blur but I wanted to start the weekend with a bang.

Friday I ended up going to the Magic Castle to catch Michael Paul and Farrell Dillion performing. I bumped into Yuri and a bunch of regulars. I didn't perform any magic but it was because I felt so depleted from the night before. I noticed that Farrell let in David and his pals in to his Friday 10:30 show but left me in line. There goes that vote for the AMA award.

Saturday night I heard the rumble of the fireworks just outside my apartment. I looked out the window and saw some fireworks north and east but not west because Santa Monica doesn't do 4th of July celebrations because the tourists have ruined it for the locals.

Later in the evening I met cnelson, readiness and Dr Who at the New Beverly Cinema. We were to see the midnight showing of Red Dawn. It was a surprise to see Lea Thompson there and a delight when she answered questions about the movie and her career films.

When Howard the Duck was brought up there was a lot of laughing and cheering. Then the trailers started with two Lea Thompson movies "Howard the Duck" and "The Wild Life". I told the gang that Howard the Duck was on Hulu but I found out it is not anymore. Bummer.

I sometimes think, am I a good magician then...

...theres Marti Brill (miamimagicians.com), I don't think I need to comment. It's just funny what gets booked for childrens parties. Egotistic, boring and was his act from a Night at the Roxbury?

Holy crap, watch out for the upcoming movie

I was reading this morning about the Yemen flight IY626 that crashed June 1st. Out of the 154 people on the plane, there was one 14 year old survivor. Not much has been released as of yet but holy crap.
