Now you see it and now you don't
I had plans to so several things this weekend but those plans have disappeared.
After work on Friday I went to Hollywood magic. The three guys were taking a mentalist act a little too far. It was fun at first where a card was taken out of the deck and guessed by one of the magicians. After the fifth time and close wrong guesses it was obvious a stacked deck was being used. It became annoying that they were trying to impress with it. I purchased Heiny 500 and Twisted by Andrew Mayne. I like Heiny 500 but I am not sure if I like Twisted so much. There are a bunch of trailers for other Andrew Mayne stuff and I like a bunch of it. Ghost Bills might be the next purchase.
Friday night I was strolling past Magicopolis and I saw Erik at the bar. I was showing him Colour Burn and talking opinions about what routines can follow. He asked if I heard that Jon Armstrong was showing up. I said I had no idea. It wasn't advertised and when it started it was just Jon, Erik and myself. Jon did some routines that were great magician foolers. It was a good four hours of magic. Jimmy and Kristy came out and then there was about 12 people by the end of the night. After Magicopolis I went to Kings Head and played the drunk magician. I saw Paul from work and did a little magic. Mostly just got drunk.
Today I was hungover and thought I would do some of my plans but it was a bust. I was supposed to go to a BBQ in Pasadena but I didn't want to drive the hour to get there. Scott called me before he was heading up but I was not ready to go at all.
I was also supposed to have plans with Jimmy to do something with Aron for his birthday. Aron ended up dumping us for something else. He is now not doing his birthday stuff till next weekend. Its sucky since I will be in New York next weekend.
I didn't end up leaving the house until 10pm. I headed to Magicopolis to attend the Bar Show. It was fun, I didn't drink too much. The magician was good. He had a good ring and string trick with a killer ending. He also did an ambitious card to wallet to Altoids box. I went home right after.
Speaking about magic, I caught the last Criss Angel Mindfreak. It was a close up episode and I wasn't totally impressed. He did a good cigarette through glass table. He then did a bad disolving deck because the camera cuts his desk switch (cheater). He did McDonald's Aces with casino security saying that the couldn't see his being unfair. I guess they didn't see his double lifts, maybe Luxor is the place to go cheat. He ended with a TV Frame effect with a card embedded in the glass door of the Criss Angel Merchandise Store. Not the greatest episode.
I leave for New York on Thursday and I am psyched a bit. I will get to see friends again. I will also get to visit Fantasma Magic again and I get to see some shows at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater. It should be fun as well as productive since I have work to do too.
